Intermediate Robotics Workshop Organised by The Robotics club, on 09 - 10 Jan 2015
Introduction
The “Intermediate Robotics Workshop” organised by The Robotics club, at Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering , on 9 & 10 Jan 2015, with the professional guidance of “Dreamspire”, a budding entrepreneurial enterprise, was a huge success. The workshop was aimed at educating and inculcating interest about robotics in the minds of budding engineers.

Number of participants: 59
Number of teams: 14

Day 1 – Introduction to Robotics
Session 1 (9.00 AM to 1 PM)

The lecture focused on the key concepts related to Robotics and the participants received a brief overview of the following topics: Types of Robots, their applications, laws of robotics, Key components, Types of sensors actuators and Controller hardware, Kinematics, Mechanics of Robots and some real life examples on Robots use in the modern world.

Kit distribution & Assembling
The participants interactively learned how to put together the basic components of Robotics.

Basic C programming
The C programming foundation was laid in the minds of the students, so that they can implement their own ideas.

Getting Started With Arduino
The students were introduced to Arduino, a very useful tool when it comes to robotics.

Session 2 (2 PM to 4 PM)

LED Interface, basic programs & I/O Device Interface
The interfacing of basic components such as LED and I/O devices where taught with hands on training.

Day 2 – Arduino Programming
Session 1 (9.00 AM to 1 PM)

Interfacing of Motor to the Arduino Board and adding real world sensors where taught to the students and they themselves constructed their own versions using those ideas.

Session 2 (1 PM to 3 PM)

Line follower & TV remote Controlled car
The students where intuitively trained to build their own Line follower & TV remote Controlled car, which they built and demonstrated with success.

Session 3 (3 PM to 4 PM)
A Robotic Competition was held for the participants. They showed great enthusiasm and competetive spirit in trying to win it. The winner was awarded a surprise gift.
The Students were awarded their Workshop Participation certificates and Queries related to the workshop where collected.

The participants were keen to learn a lot about Robotics concepts/programming
In the concluding session Dr. S. Sivasubramanian, Principal, Dr. Duraiswamy, Vice-Principal, Dr. A.R. Pradeep Kumar, HoD/Mech participated and distributed certificates to the participants. During the feedback session the participants observed that this workshop triggered their interest to do robotics- related projects and they expressed their appreciation for the “Dreamspire “ team.

A couple of examples
“Great explanations by the tutor. Helped everytime without hesitation”
“Very friendly team. Requires better time management.”

The feedback of the students were taken into account so that future workshops maybe improved. The workshop was a success because of the team work and cooperation of the department staff co-ordinators Ms.G. Divya AP/CSE, Ms. Kalaivani M, AP/CSE, Mr Sampath Kumar K G, AP/Mech, Mr Ramajayem J, AP/Mech, Mr Rajesh Kumar V R S, Asso. Prof./ECE, Mr.Thanga Raja Dinakaran D, AP/ECE. A hearty thanks to HoDs of CSE, ECE and Mechanical department for their kind support. Special thanks to our Chairman Dr.V.P Ramamurthi for his valuable support for the growth of the club.
